William Seipel passed away on May 23rd, 2021 at the age of 22. Although William’s significant disabilities and health issues made old age unlikely, his death from illness was both sudden and unexpected. William is the son of Bob and Julia Seipel and was born under difficult circumstances in Augusta, Georgia, before moving with his family to Maryland via the military in 2000.
He is survived by both his parents, his younger brothers Drew and Richie, and his grandmother Shirley Seipel. William was preceded in death by his grandmother Freda Berry, who was instrumental in his care in his younger years.
William is a 2020 graduate of the Cedar Lane School in Fulton. Attending school at Cedar Lane was the joy of his life. He loved music, art projects, gym activities, spending time with his peers and meeting the challenges given to him by his teachers. He was particularly fond of community trips from school and the varied experiences they brought. At home William enjoyed relaxing with videos and films, and being outside in the sun. As a younger boy William traveled often to the Delaware Shore for beach and pool time, and had three wonderful trips to Disney World where he was treated like a celebrity.
William’s family will be forever grateful to the agency nurses and school staff who supported William as he lived the best life he could. William’s ever evolving in-patient and out-patient medical teams at Hopkins and Kennedy Krieger are responsible for him having the life that he did, and the family is thankful for their amazing work. They are also grateful for the continuing support of many friends and extended family who helped them meet the challenges of caring for William in uncountable ways. They could not have navigated this journey without that help.
