Swarna Wijetunge

Swarna Wijetunge, 82, of Clarksville, MD passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2023.

She was born in Piliyandala, Sri Lanka in 1941 to James Pagodaarachchi and D.A. Perera.

She retired as Emeritus Professor of Educational Psychology from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka after over 40 years of teaching and mentoring educators. She is an alumna of Peradeniya University, Sri Lanka and Columbia University, where she received her Ph.D. 

She is survived by her husband G.A. Wijetunge; daughters Radhika (Vipuli) and Anjali, sons-in-law Kishan Amarasekera and Avantha Tennekoon; grandchildren Bodhi, Anik and Anissa; and sisters Premalatha Seneviratne, Jayalatha Ganepola, and Ramya Berugoda.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Indrasena, Amarasena, and Chandrasena.
