Sandi Stewart Obituary

Sandi Maria Newton Stewart, of Clarksville, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 with her husband Joseph by her side after a long illness.

Sandi was born February 13, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland to a large and close-knit family. She grew up in Baltimore, and graduated from Archbishop Keough High School. Sandi met the love of her life, Joseph (“Joey”) Stewart, Sr., in high school and they became life-long soulmates. After high school, Sandi received a B.S. degree from Towson State University. At Towson, Sandi was outgoing and beloved by her classmates, especially her sorority sisters of the Lambda Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After college, Sandi and Joey made their vows before God in front of a host of family and friends, and remained happily married and committed to one another for 28 years. From that special union came three beautiful and gifted children, Skylar Maria (age 20), Amber Nicole (age 16) and Joseph Nathaniel, Jr. (age 15). Sandi also loved animals, and dogs were always an integral part of the Stewart family. Sandi’s four-legged children, Rocco and Alice aka “Alison,” will miss her dearly.

Along with her husband, Sandi’s children were the light of her life and they shared a very tight bond. Sandi was a hands-on kind of mom, devotedly supporting her children in their many sports and academic endeavors. The family took regular family vacations and outings together and shared many warm memories. Importantly, Sandi and Joey ensured that each of their children regularly attended church and received religious education. The family are long-time members of St. Louis Catholic Apostolic Church.

Sandi had a phenomenal memory, having the ability to recount minute details and dates involving her family and friends from decades before. She had a smile that lit up a room, and freely gave strong hugs and kisses. Always a giving spirit, Sandi chose a career helping children, working for more than 30 years for various governmental agencies.

Sandi never met a stranger, and has legions of friends from all walks of life. She and Joey often hosted parties and get-togethers of all types where family and friends were welcomed and made to feel at home. Sandi was known for her excellent cooking and hostess skills. The Stewart Residence was always a place of comfort, fun, and joy because of Sandi. Big on holidays and celebrations, Sandi always decorating her home with spirit and love for holidays, birthdays, and other special events.
