Roland Leroy Michalski, better known as “Ronnie”, passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife Gerda and his step-daughter Karin Swenson, on the evening of July 8, 2021 at the age of 91. Ronnie was born to Aaron and Clarabelle Michalski in the county of La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 2, 1929.
Ronnie’s early life was spent living across the United States with his family, as his father was in the U.S. Army. At one point Ronnie spent time in Japan because of his father’s military career. He told us many stories about his time in Japan. Ronnie also served in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean conflict. After his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1952 he went on to study Watchmaking at the Elgin Watchmakers College. This was his chosen profession until his retirement.
The sport, of freshwater fishing, was something that Ronnie enjoyed his entire life from childhood until he was no longer able. It was a sport he excelled at and took great pleasure from.
Ronnie is survived by his beloved family including his wife of 33 years Gerda Michalski, his sons from his first marriage, Brian Michalski of Delaware, daughter-in-law Cathy, their son Brice and his daughter Corynn, who is Ronnie’s only great- grandchild. David Michalski of Woodbine, daughter-in-law Diane and their daughters Emily and Sara. Additionally, he is survived by his stepdaughter of 33 years Karin Swenson of Clarksville, her husband Jim and their son Phillip, who was blessed to know Ronnie as a Grandfather and a step-son Robert Moyer of Kentucky.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville Md. on Tuesday July 20 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Crownsville Veteran Cemetery, Crownsville MD
