It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, family member, friend, and colleague Nicole Youssef. Nicole, a longtime resident of Germantown, MD, passed peacefully as she was surrounded by family and those who loved and adored her at the age of 79. She is survived by her son Pierre Youssef (wife Deepa) and her two grandchildren Maya Youssef & Nikhi Youssef of Rockville, MD. Nicole is predeceased by her parents (Maurice and Pierrette DeLaVacherie) and her husband and love of her life of 52 years, Farouk Youssef.
Born, raised and educated in Coulommiers, France, Nicole, met Farouk while on a trip to Egypt and they were married the following year. Soon they welcomed their one and only son, Pierre and moved to Washington, DC in 1972 where she worked as a beloved teacher at both Lycée Rochambeau and the Washington International School before retiring. During her tenure she was awarded the Ordre des Palmes académiques for her distinguished contributions to education and culture. Nicole’s passion for teaching and impacting the lives of students drove her to continue working as a private tutor and substitute teacher at both schools she previously taught at. Nicole was passionate about learning, teaching, politics, cooking and travel. Hers is a legacy of compassion, hard work, elegance and grace.
