In Memory Martin E. Beach
Martin Edward Beach, born September 16, 1939, the son of Howard C. Beach and Mary Ann (Mertsoc) Beach, of Caton, N.Y., passed away after a 2-year illness on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Relocating from upstate New York to the D.C. area, he began his career as an electro-mechanical designer which he found challenging and rewarding. Working as a contractor he designed components for NASA’s satellites in Greenbelt and then was sought out to become one of nine to form a company called Computer Entry Systems in Silver Spring, which after many years was acquired by BancTec, a Texas firm. In 1997 he joined EVI in Columbia which was a small company involved in security and it was eventually acquired by ITT.
A farm boy at heart, the family moved from Lanham to three acres in Clarksville in 1976 where they built a house and Marty could finally grow vegetables and fruit (share the bounty with friends) and watch his children thrive and enjoyed being a timer for the boys’ swim team.
NFL Football was a favorite past time, as well as watching golf tournaments and Sudoku. He was an enthusiastic traveler touring Ireland with friends, taking many European guided tours and pilgrimages, touring national parks and visiting family in the Finger Lakes region of New York and in Ohio every year. A DIY kind of guy he was proficient at car and appliance repair, plumbing, remodeling, etc. Marty was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus, and as a member of St. Louis Church he volunteered annually to serve dinner along with his wife under the tent at the Clarksville Picnic.
Marty is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara; his three sons, Michael (Bambi) of Eldersburg, Greg (Teresa) of Westminster and Jeff (Meredith) of Delaware, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Preston, Nicholas, Everett and Annaleigh. He is also survived by siblings Walter (Janet), Albert and Margaret (Jim) Easling. His brother Howard (Sonny) and sister Elizabeth preceded him in death. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, April 8, from 3:00 to 7:00 at the Donaldson Funeral Home in Clarksville, P.A. with rosary and wake service at 6:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 9, at 11:00 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marty’s memory may be made to Gospa Missions, 230 E Main St., Evans City, PA 16033 or at gospa.org.
