Margaret Ruby Weiss (Farmer, Moores), 99, born on March 18, 1923 in Greenville, SC, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home (her answered prayer) on June 16, 2022. She was beloved mother to Paul Wesley “Wes” Moores, Jr., Robert Alexander “Bob” Moores (predeceased), Diana Sue Olmstead (predeceased), Bonnie Gail Whetzel and Paul Whetzel, Jr.. She was cherished grandmother to Chris Fortney, Kristin Perdue, Bob Moores II, Paul Whetzel III, Mindy Olmstead (predeceased), Brandon Whetzel, Lindsay Shaw and Sarah Whetzel. She was adored great-grandmother to Michael & Kara Perdue, Erik & Ryan Fortney, Mason & Olivia Whetzel, Joseph Royer, Eric & Bridget Ruby Shaw.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Paul & Alberta Farmer, along with her four brothers, Mark, Carl, Ira, Ray and sister Sadie.
Early childhood was spent in North and South Carolina, moving to Maryland in 1930 and then to Washington, DC in 1938 where she met and married Paul Moores. They married in 1940 and became proud parents to four beautiful children.
Margaret worked at USDA in Beltsville and Washington, DC from 1950 to 1985, where she met and married Martin Weiss in 1969. After his passing, she moved to the Whetzel’s farm in Ellicott City where she has enjoyed the last 30 years traveling, time at the beach, sewing, gardening and her greatest passion in life … enjoying, loving and making memories with her precious family.
After almost 100 years of a fulfilled and beautiful life, she remained very proud of her remarkable health and extremely sharp mind (with an uncanny memory). She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her family along with a host of extended family and great friends.
As requested by Margaret, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and information updated on this website.
In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to her two favorite charities:
S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat)
St. Joseph’s Indian School
