Lynne Vidmar Obituary

Lynne Sanders Vidmar died unexpectedly on November 21, 2021, at the MICU in Johns Hopkins Hospital from complications due to a pulmonary embolism. She was 60 years old.

Lynne is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 37 years, David William Vidmar; children Christine Vidmar Gomes (Rodrigo Gomes) and Joseph Robert Vidmar (Brittany Benton); granddaughter, Lucy Elizabeth Gomes (who she called her little dose of medicine); mother, Constance Elizabeth Sanders; siblings Laurie Rolfes (Jude Rolfes) and John Sanders (Kathy Sanders); over a dozen cherished nieces and nephews; other extended family; and the two devoted white chihuahuas, Betty and Chuck, she adopted. She is predeceased by her father, John Raymond Sanders; mother-in-law, Patricia Ann Vidmar; father-in-law, James Anthony Vidmar; and many beloved pets. She was followed in death by her sister, Shannon McDonald.

Lynne Monica Sanders was born on March 4, 1961, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Constance and John Sanders. She graduated from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Johns Hopkins University in 1986 with a Master of Science in Computer Science. She was a Computer Analyst at the Department of Defense National Computer Security Center, part of the National Security Agency, where she performed evaluations of custom-built military computer systems and networks and identified vulnerabilities to internal and external attacks. The nature of her work was highly classified, and her family and friends never knew the full extent of her service. With other NSA colleagues, she transitioned to a newly formed company, Trusted Information Systems, to support the Strategic Defense Initiative Battle Management System. On top of being a fantastic computer scientist and mathematician, she was an exquisite writer.

On October 8, 1984, Lynne married her childhood sweetheart and supported him as he built his career at State Farm Insurance. She gave birth to Christine Elizabeth on March 23, 1988, and Joseph Robert on August 21, 1990. She was an extremely loving and dedicated mother and wife, and eventually left her job to focus all of her time and energy on the home front. You could always find Lynne volunteering: Girl Scout Leader, Second Grade Sunday School Teacher, Travel Soccer Manager, Chair of School Magazine Fundraisers, Spirit Wear Sales, After-Prom Organizer, and Treasurer of the Dorsey Search Women’s Foundation. She packed the best theme lunches with handwritten notes, maintained the most organized family calendar you have ever seen, and attended every school event, sports competition, and piano recital. When her kids were older, she earned a certificate in Veterinary Medicine from Howard County Community College and worked at the Fulton Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant.

Lynne loved watermelon, snowballs, peppermint ice cream, and breakfast for dinner. Her happy places were the beach and rolling horse pastures, both of which were her ideal locations for taking long walks. Elephants were her favorite animals. She was an avid reader, spending over an hour every night with her nose in a book, and a talented gardener. Lynne was a loyal friend and enjoyed many years of book clubs and lunch dates. She gave the best gifts – from seasonal home decorations to perfectly fitting pants and pajamas you didn’t know you needed. She loved being a “Grammie” to her “Lucy Lu” more than anything. Lynne was positive and graceful throughout health challenges over the past few years. She had a special sparkle about her that will be missed by all who knew her.

A mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fulton, MD on December 13th at 10:30am. A smaller private celebration of life will follow.
