Kenneth Gordon Hance, 81, of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI, to Kenneth G. and Winnifred (Shattuck) Hance. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Beth (Richard Fenton) of Ellicott City, MD, Catherine (Bruce Stocks), of Denver, CO, and Deborah Hance, of Richmond, VA, and grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily, and Steven Fenton, of Ellicott City, MD.
A graduate of Michigan State University and Northwestern University School of Law, Ken was a former Partner and Senior Counsel at Nixon Peabody, LLP, focusing on affordable housing and tax credit investment and finance. Highlights of his career included serving as the first Executive Director of the Virginia Housing Development Authority and as the Founding Director and Past President of the National Council of State Housing Agencies.
His love of law was second only to his love of music. Ken served on the Washington Concert Opera’s Board of Directors for 35 years and was a member of the Arts Club of Washington. He was previously on the Board of Directors for the Levine School of Music. He also provided pro bono legal services to many non-profit social service, housing, and community development organizations in the Washington, DC area.
