Joseph John Spellman

Joseph "Joe" John Spellman died peacefully after a brief illness in Washington DC on October 30, 2020 at the age of 74.

Joe is survived by his wife Jo Ellen, children Rosemary, Alex, his wife Rebecca, two beautiful grandchildren, and sisters Mary, Patricia, and Helen. He was preceded in death by both parents and several relatives.

He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) degree and went on to Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering to graduate with a Master of Science degree. He started working for the United States Department of the Army and continued there through retirement.
 

He played volleyball and coached for many years. He built a house in 1976 and got back into renovation and home building in retirement.

Services will be private. Please, no flowers. Donations would be welcomed to either the University of Virginia Engineering Department or Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering.
