John (Jack) F. Latu, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 3, 2023. Jack was born on September 16, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ and raised in Tenafly, NJ. He was the son of John and Margaret (Ryan) Latu. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Audrey Hogg Ray. Jack was the devoted husband of Barbara (Hunter) Latu for 64 years. They resided in Strafford, Berwyn, and Audubon, PA for 50 years.
He was a dedicated father of 5 children including Jean Latu of Dana Point, CA, Cathy and her husband John Brophy of Ellicott City, MD, John F. Latu III and his wife Kathy of Hopkinton, MA, Paul Latu and his wife Karen of Spring City, PA, and Mark Latu and his wife Lisa of Fuquay-Varina, NC. Jack was a proud grandfather to Ryan Brophy, Michelle Brophy, Dan Latu, Brian Latu, and Kevin Latu and great grandfather to Colin Brophy and Kelly Brophy. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Jack graduated high school from Delbarton School, Morristown, NJ in 1951 and Georgetown University, Washington DC. In 1954. He served in the US Army for 2 years before he began his career in sales. Jack worked for 3M in their printing products division for 25 years. He then became VP of Sales for Minuteman Press in the mid-Atlantic. Jack enjoyed the last phase of his career as a realtor on the Main Line of Philadelphia. Jack was a consummate host and enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his wife, Barbara. He was an avid music lover and sang in the Glee Club at Georgetown. He performed in several community theater productions with Footlighters Theater in Berwyn. Jack enjoyed traveling with Barbara especially to visit their children around the US or with friends on overseas adventures.
Visitation will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3755 St. Paul St., Ellicott City, MD 21043 on Friday June 9, 2023 at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Interment will be at New Cathedral Cemetery, 4300 Old Frederick Rd, Baltimore, MD.
