John J. Habert, Jr, 84, passed away on February 25, 2024 at Howard County General Hospital. John was born in 1939 to John J. Habert, Sr. and Emma Habert in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was the youngest of three children. The family moved to Maryland when John was very young and he grew up in the Catonsville, MD area.
John started his career at Johns Hopkins University. He then became a computer programmer working for Bendix, Allied Signal, TRW, and Honeywell. The majority of his career was spent as a contractor at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He also had his own photography company, Bart Photography, photographing weddings, portraits and taking photos for insurance claims.
He enjoyed spending time at the gun range and was a long-time member of the Associated Gun Club (AGC) of Baltimore. He was the Goddard Gun Club representative at the AGC. Once he retired, he was a Range Safety Officer at AGC for many years. He also found a lot of joy in helping friends and family capture their family histories, spending hours researching on Ancestry to do so. In line with his caring nature, he loved animals and always carried around treats to give to his grand-dogs. He had a sharp sense of humor and an affinity for good jokes and stories.
He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 47 years, and their four sons and wives, John(Jane), Jason(Kati), Wes, Tim, and his eight grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, Ryan, Joel, Benjamin, Owen, Reid and Cameron. He is also survived by his sister Pat Pfannenstiel, and many nieces and nephews.
