George Lyle Morse, 74, of Olney, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022.
George was born in Washington, D.C., to Vernon and Florence (Smith) Morse. George grew up in North Beach, MD and loved fishing and boating on the bay. He attended Lebanon Valley College where he played football and majored in biology. This sparked his passion for coaching and teaching, which would define his career.
George devoted over 30 years to education as a biology teacher at Churchill and Bethesda Chevy Chase High Schools. After the classroom, he specialized in testing and curriculum development at the MCPS Board of Education and the Maryland State Department of Education. While impacting decades of students in the classroom, George’s other passion was coaching. He was a well-respected coach of football, baseball, golf, and wrestling at the high school level, and enjoyed many years coaching his kids’ little league baseball and softball teams in Wheaton and Olney.
George is survived by his children, Michael, Eric (spouse Leah), Amy (spouse Louis Karko), and David; his sister, Diana; his partner, Regina English; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife, Patricia Morse.
