Frederick Ensor, Jr Obituary

Frederick (Rick) Talbot Ensor, Jr., age 51, formerly of Columbia, MD, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 16, 2020.  He was a graduate of Lock Raven High School (1987), received a BA from Frostburg State University (Cum Laude, 1991), and MA from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (1993).  Rick was a founding father of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity (Maryland Delta) and was a proud member of the football team at Frostburg State University.  He was employed at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Silver Spring, MD and previously worked at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services/HCFA in Baltimore, MD.

Rick loved sports, both playing and watching them.  His greatest pride and passion came from watching his daughters play soccer.  He was most proud to watch his daughters play side-by-side while serving as the voice of Atholton Girls’ Varsity Soccer for 6 years.  Rick also enjoyed coaching soccer and touched many people’s lives through his football, baseball/softball and soccer activities.  He enjoyed exercise including playing golf, tennis, running and biking.  He was an amazing, kind, generous and curious person.  Rick was always the first to help someone and ready to lend an ear to a friend.  He had a way of chatting with strangers who often warmed up to him quickly, as he had a way of making people feel comfortable and was genuinely interested in learning about them. He was a master provocateur, who could light up a room and stir the pot with a sly grin. He was known for his honesty (sometimes a bit too honest), sincerity, big heart, and world-renown snap dance.  He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, son and friend.

Rick also loved to joke and prank with those he cared about, tending to give those he loved the most the hardest time.  So, I’m sure he would like to remind everyone that he was the first two-time SAE fantasy football champion (2017 & 2019), co-SAE cornhole champion with Garcia, and the 2020 co-Sunset Beach spikeball champion with Lynne, and held numerous course titles on his 2020 Golden Tee.

Some of the fondest memories he mentioned were vacationing and playing golf at Sunset Beach, doing projects and having drinks with Fred, his baseball stadium trips with Leahy and Summy, adventures with his SAE brothers, his HCFA/CMS gang, and working out with the guys at the Micozzi house during high school.  Rick loved dogs and always had at least one, with his favorite and kindred spirit being Tucker.

He was proceeded by in death by his father, Frederick T. Ensor, Sr. and is survived by his mother Joanne (Wolf) Ensor of Parkville, MD.  He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lynne (Whitehead) Ensor; daughters, Ashley and Delaney Ensor; sister, Kim (Ensor) Smith; nephew, Rick Smith; and niece, Shelby (Smith) Miller.

To all of his SAE brothers Phi Alpha, as Rick loved you and the time spent with you dearly….even though he would never admit it to you.

We will deeply miss “#41 in your programs and #1 in our hearts”!

A gathering for Rick will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 4:00 pm at the Brookeville Beer Farm in 20315 Georgia Ave., Brookeville, MD 20833. The family would like to highlight the request for social distancing during the gathering and that masks are required for the health and safety of all attending.
