Dr. Robert Barungi

Dr. Robert Barungi AKA (Duba, Robo, Dr B, Uncle B, Guzu), 41, passed away on June 18, 2023, in Germantown, MD.

Robert was born in Uganda to Mr. Benon Kakuru and Mrs. Maude Kakuru. He attended grade school and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Mbarara University of Science and Technology, in 2006. Once in the United States, Robert obtained a master’s degree in public health from University of Maryland. Robert worked at Montgomery Community College as an educator.

Robert is survived by his wife Patience Barungi, children; Jemima and Jesse Barungi and siblings; Jackie, Olivia, Michael, Peter, and Faith.

Robert loved to go swimming, climbing mountains, riding bicycles, and having BBQs. Robert was a proud dad, and his happiest moments were when he was with his family.

Robert also loved to teach and one of his greatest accomplishments was teaching at Montgomery Community college. He loved his students and always talked about them to whoever cared to listen.

Robert made friends wherever he went, whether it was in Kabuyanda deep down in Isingiro, or it was in a pub somewhere in Laurel, it did not matter. He made and kept friends and that was his greatest treasure. He was always charming to be around and did not hesitate to stop and talk to the person next to him. This sociable person is the Robert we remember, love and will always miss.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday July 2, 2023 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM with a Funeral Service starting at 1:00 PM at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029. Interment will be at a later date in Uganda.
