Doris Williams Obituary

Doris Williams, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at home in Columbia, MD on September 24, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in 1948 to Cecil and Iris Simmonds of St. Thomas, Jamaica, WI. She resided in New Jersey for over 30 years and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey where she was a member of the choir. She retired from JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ.

She dearly loved to travel, sing, dance, and laugh. Her 8-year journey with Alzheimer’s robbed her of almost all of her usual joys in life but, through it all, she continued to dance whenever there was music.

She is survived by her devoted husband Berthel Williams; four children, Rohan, Milton, Dionne, and Jennifer; son-in-law, Anthony; two sisters, Naomi and Christine; four brothers, Hubert, Granville, Norman and Everton; four grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan, Arielle, and Evan, and many nieces, nephews and close friends.Subsequent to her passing, on September 28, 2021, Doris’ eldest brother, Hubert, unexpectedly passed in New Jersey.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Icema, and a brother, Winston.

A viewing will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 10:30am to 11:30am, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30am. Interment to follow at  St. John's Cemetery, Ellicott City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association as a Memorial for Doris Williams.
