Remembering Michelle
On Saturday, September 25, 2021 Dawn Michelle Corpening Nance was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. She was surrounded by her family and close friend.
Dawn affectionately known as Michelle was born on September 17, 1962 to the late James and Audrey Diane Corpening at Portsmouth Navy Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Michelle will always be remembered as a caring, gentle, and loving wife, mother, sister, cousin, and aunt who inspired all that interacted and connected with her. Michelle started her early childhood education in Lenior, North Carolina Public School System. Michelle played the flute in the band. Michelle always remained in close contact with her hometown friends and classmates from Lenior, North Carolina. Michelle continued her education in Prince George’s County, Maryland Public School Systems where she graduated from Central High School. One of her favorite songs was Bennie & The Jets by Elton John. After high school she attended University of Pittsburgh and graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Informational Science.
In 1984 Michelle met Arthur Nance. They dated for several years before getting married in 1988. Michelle and Arthur resided in several locations in Maryland. Currently the family lives in Columbia, Maryland. They have three children together Brian Miles, Aaron Michael, and Alyse Michelle Nance. Michelle was a mother first. She loved and would do anything for her children. She was their guiding light. Michelle was always family first. She was the anchor that connected her family together. Michelle always remembered every family member’s birthday. Throughout the years Michelle was always the center of family functions. Michelle was known for her famous potato salad.
In 1991 Michelle was employed by United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, DC she served as the Deputy Director, Office of Chief Information Officer. Michelle was an accomplished and dedicated employee at HUD for 30 years.
Michelle leaves to cherish her husband Arthur Nance, sons Brian and Aaron and one daughter Alyse and her precious granddaughter Adalined Lovett, three siblings, Sharon Corpening (deceased), Raynaud Corpening from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Crystal Patterson (Henry) from Greensboro, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and close friends.
