On April 4, 2021, Colleen Kearney of Alexandria Virginia ,age 47, passed away after a three year battle with metastatic breast cancer, supported by her many loving friends and family. She is survived by her parents Barry and Gail Kearney of Columbia, Maryland; her brother Christopher of Lutz, Florida and her beloved Havanese Ollie. She was born in Buffalo, New York and eventually moved to Columbia, Maryland, as a child, with her parents.
She attended local schools and later graduated from American University with a double major in literature and music. Colleen is also a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and was a member of the Florida Bar. Her interest in Intellectual Property Law led her to a career with the United States Patent and Trademark Office where she worked as a trademark examiner and ultimately an attorney in the Commissioners’ Office.
Colleen loved all kinds of music and was an accomplished bassoon player. She was a member of the Washington Conservatory Orchestra and her twice a year concerts were a delight to her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday April 15th at 11:00 am at St Louis Catholic Church, located at 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, Maryland. The family will receive mourners at the Church from 10:30-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her memory to Metavivor, www.metavivor.org, an organization dedicated solely to metastatic breast cancer awareness and research.
