Carl Edward Cookerly

Carl Edward Cookerly, lovingly known as “Bear,” passed away on August 10, 2021 in his home in Dayton, MD.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Filiaggi Cookerly and four daughters, Lisa Ann Ward and husband James,  Teresa Lynn Nowaskey and husband Jay,  Renee Alane Cookerly, Karen Elizabeth Mobley and husband Gilbert, as well as 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Carl or “Bear” was born in Cumberland, MD to father Carl Thomas Cookerly, and mother Edna Pearl (Huff) Cookerly. He graduated from Fort Hill High School and went on to earn his B.S in Industrial Arts from West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WVA. He played football on scholarship and was later inducted into the college’s Hall of Fame. He lived in Laurel, MD for 31 years, Littlestown, PA for 20 years and the last 3+ years in Dayton, MD to be closer to his family.  He was an active member of his community in both Laurel and Littlestown and enjoyed golf, skiing, travel and time with friends and family.

Carl served in the U.S Army from 1958 to 1960 in Fulda, Germany.  He had a successful career in sales management, in his entrepreneurial ventures into home improvement, and in the restaurant business.  He is preceded in death by his father Carl, mother Edna, brother Harold and brother John Thomas.

Friends and relatives may visit Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A. 12540 Clarksville Pike (Rte.108) Clarksville, Maryland 21029 on Saturday August 28, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. where a memorial service will commence. Interment Private.
