Betty Jane Poe

Betty Jane Poe, 77, passed away at Gilchrist Center of Howard County in Columbia, Maryland on January 22, 2023, with her children by her side.

Born February 18, 1945, in Prince William County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Christopher Columbus Wines and Elizabeth Katherine Wines (Furr).  At the age of 8, her family moved from Virginia to Laurel, Maryland.  She graduated from Laurel High School.

When she was 13, she met the love of her life, Phil Poe, on a blind date set up by his niece.  They were married on July 27, 1963, and settled in Scaggsville, Maryland, where they raised their 3 children. 

Betty worked in banking for over 25 years retiring from PNC Bank in 2010.  She was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Laurel, Maryland. 

She loved spending time with her family especially holidays, birthdays, Sunday dinners and just sitting on her front porch on warm sunny days with her loving dog Sassy.  In addition to her family, she enjoyed getting together and socializing with her many friends.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Angie Pipik (Ray), Judy Lang (Dennis), Chris Poe (Crystal) and 7 grandchildren, Melissa Poillon (Peet), Sarah Lang, William Lang (Lexus), Tyler Pipik (Rebecca), Jeremy Poe, Holly Poe and Ryley Poe and 4 great-grandchildren, Reid Poillon, Wyatt Lang, Brynlee Pipik and Emma Poillon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, her parents and sisters Rachel Walker and Martha Softy.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Rt. 108, Clarksville, MD  21029.  Funeral service will be on Monday, January 30 at 10:00am at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD  21029.  Burial immediately following at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 10751 Scaggsville Road, Laurel, MD  20723.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gilchrist Center of Howard County for the exceptional care they provided to our mother while she was there.
