William (Bill) Becker Jenkins October 20, 1947 – December 20, 2024

William “Bill” Jenkins, a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 77, following several months of complications after surgery. Bill was born in Washington, D.C., on October 20, 1947, to Florence (Whitcomb) and William Jenkins Sr., and he grew up in the Northwest neighborhood of the city.

Bill attended Gonzaga High School, received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland, and a master’s degree from George Washington University. Bill had a 35-year federal career working for the General Services Administration Public Building Service, specializing in the acquisition, leasing, renovation, and construction of federal properties across the nation. His expertise in commercial properties was recognized and valued by colleagues, and he became a key player in ensuring quality federal office space for the federal workforce. After retiring from federal service, Bill continued his professional journey in the private sector, working with Trammell Crow and CBRE, until his retirement.

Bill had a passion for sports. He was a baseball pitcher at Gonzaga and briefly played baseball for the University of Maryland Terrapins. He was an avid Terrapins fan, a proud member of the Terrapins Club for over 50 years and maintained season tickets for basketball and football throughout his entire adult life. His love of sports went far beyond his commitment to the Terps, and he was a fountain of knowledge on a wide range of sporting topics, always ready to share his opinions, stats, and anecdotes with friends and family. Bill also took a keen interest in military history, Formula 1 racing, and enjoyed sampling craft bourbons.

Bill married his beloved wife, Jeanne, in 1988, and together they created a life filled with adventure and love. Their journey took them from Maryland to Manhattan, New Jersey, and finally to Lewes, Delaware, where they retired in 2007. Bill cherished his role as a stepfather to Lauren Murray (Steve) and Patrick Armknecht (Barbara), and as a grandfather to his four much loved grandchildren: Alexandra, Brooke, Andrew, and Brennan. Bill was deeply proud of his family, and his relationships with them were a central part of his life. He is also survived by his cousins, Jay Whitcomb (Nancy), Kay Evans, Nancy Denlinger, and Peggy Graham with whom he shared a special closeness.

Those who knew Bill often admired his meticulous organization and thoughtful nature. He was a researcher and planner, creating notes and saving articles for himself and his loved ones on a variety of topics, from personal interests to life lessons. His family and friends were often the recipients of notes and articles that shared advice, insights, or just a bit of wisdom.

Bill was also a proud member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1690, where he most recently served as President. His leadership and commitment to the organization reflected his dedication to public service and his love of our country.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and integrity. He was a man of principle, a dedicated professional, and a beloved family member and friend. His impact on those who knew him will be felt for years to come.
