Stephen Patrick Duffy, 88, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 2, 1938, and raised in Ashland, New Hampshire, he was the son of Stephen and Margaret Duffy.

Steve graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1960 with a degree in Architectural Engineering before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. While stationed in Newport, Rhode Island, Steve met the love of his life, Nuala FitzGerald. They were married on July 8, 1967, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 59 years and was filled with adventure, devotion, and family.

In 1964, Stephen joined The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, where he built a distinguished 54-year career. He was respected for his integrity, strong work ethic, and taking care of his people. The relationships Steve formed throughout his career were a source of great pride and lasting friendships.

Beyond his career, Steve’s greatest passion was his family. Steve could always be found cheering on his grandchildren in their many endeavors. He loved sailing the Chesapeake Bay and building in his woodworking shop. Steve leaves a legacy of hard work and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Stephen was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Colleen Duffy Brickley; and by his parents, Stephen and Margaret. Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Nuala; his son, Patrick (wife Lynda) Duffy; his daughter, Micaela (husband Todd) Crooks; his son-in-law Edward Brickley; his brother Father Michael Duffy, OFM; his nine cherished grandchildren: Mairéad, Bridget, and Shannon Brickley; Caitlin, Caroline, and Mia Duffy; Maire, Brianna, and Stephen Crooks; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

A Visitation will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD with a Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Church to be announced at a later date. A private interment will take place in Rhode Island at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Inn or Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.
