Siobhan Marie Saunderson

On May 16th, 2024, Siobhan Marie Mellett Saunderson of Scaggsville, Md, passed away after a courageous fight against cancer over the last two years. Siobhan was born on May 6th, 1970, to Patrick James Mellett (Judy) and Joan Reilly Mellett Decker (Earl J Decker RIP) in Somerville, NJ.

Siobhan was a graduate of Oakland Mills High School in Columbia, Md and had been a Howard County school teacher for 16 years after studying Education at Elon College, NC, and graduation in 1993. It was while attending Elon College that Siobhan met her future husband Evan Archer Saunderson, also from Howard County.

Siobhan is survived by her loving husband Evan, son Jack Patrick and wife Jacy, daughter Reilly Grace, and youngest daughter Joan Faith. Siobhan’s paternal grandparents were Martin & Mary Mellett of Inwood, New York City, and Joseph & Lillian Reilly of NYC/Raritan, NJ. She is survived by brothers, Patrick, and wife Joli, Michael and wife Kathleen, Kevin and wife Sheryl, and Thomas and wife Kristin, John and wife Kyle and Joseph and wife Allison. As well, surviving are sisters Annette, Mary and Laura Decker. Siobhan was preceded in death by her mother, Joan; stepfather Earl; stepsister Kathleen, nephew Samuel Decker Morris, and stepmother Barbara Carter Mellett. Also surviving are father and mother in laws, Joseph & Joyce Saunderson, brother-in-law Patrick Saunderson and wife Karen, sister-in-law Tracy Saunderson Morris and husband Dale.

Outside of her teaching responsibilities and her love of children, Siobhan was an avid reader. However, her truly favorite thing in life was to be with family and close friends BBQing poolside in their backyard with family dog Mozart who thought he was a lifeguard and indeed was and later the gentle Finn introducing himself to all who visited. Siobhan enjoyed traveling as well and being present in the lives of her children and wider family. Siobhan was the problem solver and friend that so many went to for support, encouragement and advice when needed. She gave her all to those she loved. The Saunderson home that she and her husband built was always filled with love and family and friends’ laughter. Siobhan’s family will always remember how fiercely she fought against cancer and how her spirit never wavered.

Friends and family may visit Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 at 11:00 am.
