Shirley “Mitzi” Weinstein, 79, loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, amazing sister, wonderful aunt and cousin, and a caring and genuine friend to so many, sadly passed away on December 13, 2025.

Shirley, or as most of her friends and loved ones knew her, Mitzi, was a strong-willed woman who valued her family and friends above all else. As a born leader, she possessed a beautiful gift for stepping into any circle, fitting in instantly, and making every person feel truly special. You could have no better ally by your side—though one quickly learned it was best never to stand in her way. She was funny, she was loving, and she was both hard and soft. Mitzi was full of empathy, often turning strangers to friends in an instant. One afternoon with her and she’d know everything about you, your family, your kids, and you’d feel seen in a way that often feels rare. Mitzi was a constant pillar of support, standing by those she loved through their hardest trials and celebrating most loudly during their greatest joys. Beyond her deep devotion to others, she was a true artist who channeled her vibrant creativity into painting, writing, the piano, and home decoration. Many will remember her beautiful hand-painted stools and the blankets she so lovingly crocheted for the new babies in her circle of family and friends.

Mitzi was born July 21, 1946 in Sydney, Montana, the daughter of Goldie and Leon Andersen. She graduated from Bozeman High School in 1964 where she was a flag twirler and then went on to Montana State College where she joined Chi Omega Sorority and was voted “Sweetheart of Sigma Chi”.

One of Mitzi’s first jobs and leadership roles was managing Jack’s Drive In, where it’s said no one could wash dishes faster than her. After college she moved to Maryland and ran a Western Auto Store. She later found herself managing the Audits and Investigations office with Prince Georges County where she met the love of her life, Ron Weinstein. Later she did a brief stint selling Tupperware before finally landing on her true career and passion as a multimillion-dollar real estate agent. It was her sister Myrna who nudged her into this career, following in the footsteps of their mother Goldie, and Myrna’s house was the very first house she ever sold. After that, she never looked back. Beyond the numbers, her success was built on the deep bonds she formed with her clients, many of whom became lifelong friends and advocates who bought multiple properties through her.

Mitzi was a loving wife to Ron Weinstein for over 45 years. She was an incredible mother to her son, Joshua, daughter, Kimberly Connor (Brandon) grandmother to her grandchildren, Andersen and Sierra, and sibling to her sister Myrna (John) Reed and brother Rodney (Peggy) Andersen. Nothing was more important to her than being with her family and friends, especially her book club, the “Beautiful Book Babes”, who were there for each other through all of the milestones in their lives.

She found joy in the simple, beautiful moments – watching her favorite HGTV shows for inspiration she’d later bring into her own home, getting lost in a good book, painting, laughing over games of Bunco, and most of all, spending treasured time with her family, especially at the beach in Fenwick Island. While her presence will be deeply missed, the love she gave and the life she lived will continue to shine through everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

The burial will be held at the Columbia Memorial Park (12005 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD) on Saturday, December 20th at 2:00 PM. There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Mitzi at The Meeting House – Oakland Mills Interfaith Center (5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD) on Saturday, January 31st at 12:00 PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend either or both events. There will be an opportunity to share any happy, loving or funny memories of Mitzi at her Celebration of Life.
