Sean E. Bland

January 8, 1969 — June 22, 2024

Columbia, Maryland

Sean Elwood Bland, 55, of Columbia, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Howard County General Hospital after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Sean was born on January 8, 1969, and adopted into a loving family by Elwood Leonard Bland and Vivian Brown Bland. He was a Christian, having been baptized at The People’s Community Baptist Church in September 1983. Sean’s life was a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and dedication.

He was raised in Silver Spring, where as a youth he played baseball and football. He used the lessons learned on the playing field to mentor his younger brother in both sports and life in general. Throughout his childhood he made, and kept to this day, a large and eclectic group of friends. He took great joy learning about their weddings and family expansions and pained when learning of their losses.

Upon graduation from Paint Branch High School in 1988, Sean served his country with honor in the US Army. After four years of military service, he embarked on a career with Tech Painting Company, where he spent 15 years honing his skills as a painter and supervisor. His hard work and dedication were evident to all who worked with him. Seeking new challenges, Sean obtained his commercial driver’s license (CDL) and joined Shaw Industries as a driver, where he continued to excel until his health began to decline.

Throughout his professional journey, Sean was known not only for his skill but also for his warm personality. He was a team player who brought a smile to every room he entered and was always a welcomed presence among his colleagues.

Beyond his professional achievements, Sean’s greatest joy was his family. He shared a deep and abiding love with his wife Mandy, whom he cherished dearly. Together, they created a life filled with love and happiness. Sean was a devoted father to his daughter Taylor, with whom he shared an incredible bond, filled with pride and joy. His close relationship with his brother Calvin was a cornerstone of his life, and they shared countless moments of laughter and support.

He was a caring stepfather to Lesley, Joey, and Corey, and an adoring grandfather to Keyon and Brooklyn. His wife Mandy, parents Elwood and Vivian, daughter Taylor, brother Calvin and wife Tonya, along with many family members and friends will forever remember Sean’s gentle spirit and kind heart.

As we celebrate Sean’s life, we remember a man who faced challenges with grace, loved deeply, and touched the lives of many. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration to honor Sean's life will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on July 11, 2024, at 11am. A reception will immediately follow the celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sean's memory to the American Cancer Society , supporting prostate cancer research and awareness.

Sean’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and a well-lived life. May he rest in peace.
