Sarah Manning O’Leary, 91, died on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Vantage House in Columbia, Maryland, her home since 2013, from complications following a stroke.
She was born on August 18, 1931 to Helen Schofield Manning and James Edward Manning in Hudson, Massachusetts. In 1953, she married William Patrick O’Leary, who preceded her in death in 2008. Together they raised six children, sons William (Jacki Lyden), James (Kathleen McGlaughlin), Patrick (Molly Ryan O’Leary) and daughters Kathleen (Hal Bloom), Ellen (Andreas Wilkinson) and Jane (Jon Ruckdeschel), all of Maryland. She is survived by her children and eight grandchildren and a legion of beloved friends and family.
Sarah was the fourth of eight children in her family, which moved to Washington, D.C. in 1946. Around this time, she attended the Corcoran School of Art in Washington. After marrying, she lived in Adelphi and Highland, Maryland. In the 1980’s she became a manager at Burn Brae Dinner Theater in Burtonsville, Maryland. She also worked at the FBI and NOAA.
In retirement she travelled with her family, making frequent trips to her ancestral homeland in Ireland. She is remembered for her constant smile, warmth, humor, artistry and passion for life.
The visitation will be at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on Wednesday September 7th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
A funeral mass & celebration of her life will be held on Thursday September 8th at 10am at St. Louis Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029.
