Samuel Fritz Mcgeiver

Samuel Fritz McGeiver (Sam) passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 19, 2024 in Columbia, Maryland.

He was born on June 15, 1935 in Salisbury, North Carolina.  He was the son of Samuel Jones McGeiver and Ora Louise Fritz McGeiver and grew up alongside his sister, Katherine McGeiver Burns.

Sam grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and Asheboro, North Carolina and graduated from Asheboro High School in June,1953.  He earned a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Carolina in 1957 and a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Florida in 1966, a testament to his dedication to learning and innovation. His career in the aerospace industry reflected his passion for technology and exploration, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.

Beyond his professional achievements, Sam found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid reader with a deep appreciation for religion and history and loved engaging in spirited debates about it. Music filled his days, and he cherished quiet moments spent with his feline companions. His love for cats was well-known among those close to him.

Sam is preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth Jane Carol McGeiver.  He is survived by his sister Katherine, his two children: Moira McGeiver and Charles McGeiver, and his three grandchildren: Zachary Chiacchierini, Julia Chiacchierini, and Steven Fuscardo.  Sam’s legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, who will remember him fondly.

May Sam’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and inspire them to cherish the passions that bring meaning to life.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 2892 MD-97, Glenwood, MD 21738.  A private interment will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Collington, MD.
