Ronald Stuart Weinstein

October 16, 1946 — September 1, 2024

Ellicott City, Maryland

Ronald Stuart Weinstein, 77, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, amazing brother, wonderful uncle and cousin, and a caring and genuine friend to so many, sadly passed away on September 1, 2024.  Ron was a wise man who navigated life through his unparalleled humor and filled rooms with the warmth of his laugh. He touched the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. He was fiercely protective of his family and if he was your friend, he was your best friend.

Ronald was born October 16, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA, the son of Bernard and Nettie Goldberg Weinstein. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1964 and then went on to Penn State University, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Accounting. Shortly after graduation, he earned his CPA license. Ron also proudly served in the Pennsylvania Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974.

One of Ron’s first jobs was with the Prince Georges County Government in the Audits and Investigations department. He then took a job as the County Auditor for Prince Georges County. In 1984, Howard County Government approached him about a new and exciting opportunity. An independent in philosophy and politics, Ron served over 23 years as the Howard County Auditor, an appointed position, serving under Democratic and Republican administrations alike.  He really enjoyed his job and his colleagues, but he ultimately worked for the people of the county he loved.

Ron was a loving husband to Shirley (Mitzi) Andersen for over 45 years. He was an incredible father to his son, Joshua, daughter, Kimberly Connor (Brandon) and grandchildren, Andersen and Sierra, his brothers Alan (Kathi) and Richard (Deborah) Weinstein of Harrisburg, PA.  His family always came first to him, every thought and action was first and foremost about their well-being. His friends were a close second, always celebrating with them in good times and there for them in bad times. Ron had many friends and family who adored him because of his kind heart and sense of humor.

He enjoyed watching Penn State college football games, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially at the beach. You would not know it looking at him but the man was a fighter, who never lost his humor even through his last days. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts and actions of all who knew him, and who are better people for being lucky enough to have known him.

The burial will be held at the Columbia Memorial Park (12005 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD) on Saturday, September 7th at 12:00 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Ron at The Meeting House – Oakland Mills Interfaith Center (5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD) on Sunday, September 22nd at 4:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome to attend either or both events. There will be an opportunity to share any happy, loving or funny memories of Ron at his Celebration of Life. If you wish to share a story or pictures please contact the family.
