January 5, 1934 — October 15, 2023

Fulton, Maryland

Richard (Ric) Allen Cook, Sr, 89 of Fulton, MD passed away on October 15, 2023. He was born to William G. Cook and Fannie May Cook in January 1934.   Ric was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Laurel where he and his wife Harriet celebrated friendship and worship every Sunday. Ric’s greatest love was his bride of almost 70 years, Harriet, and his family.   Together they raised 4 children all while Ric served in the US Marine Corps, finished his high school degree, then went on to complete his law degree to become an accomplished attorney.   Ric worked for over 30 years as the General Counsel, Executive Vice President and Secretary of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of the National Capital Area. When not doting on his family, Ric loved to be on the water crabbing and fishing.  It was his greatest joy to bring back a bushel of crabs to steam for his family.  Throughout his adult life, Ric practiced his golf game religiously which brought him both delight and frustration, as any golfer can attest. Ric is survived by his beautiful wife, Harriet Alfreda Cook; children Linda Cook and her husband Wayne Lesonick, Richard Cook, Jr. and his wife Denese Cook, Pam Cook and her husband Myron Weiner, Laurie Cook and her husband Michael Burkholder. Ric loved his grandchildren: Michael Hancock and his wife Trista, Daniel Hancock and his wife Heather, Wendi Gauss and her husband Chad, Richard Cook III, Ryan Conroy and his wife Siobhan, Julianne Conroy, Holly Conroy, Kevin Weiner and his wife Michelle and Lisa Reed and her husband Curtis. Ric’s great grandchildren:   Presley Hancock, Brynley Hancock, Harley Hancock, Daniel Hancock, Jr., Dylan Hancock, Zoey Gauss, Maisy Gauss, Mason Garvey, Melina Parker and Abigail Reed. His great great grandchildren:  Skylar Hockaday and Caleb. Ric was preceded in death by his parents, William and Fannie Cook, brothers William Cook, Jr., John Cook, James Cook, and sisters Myrtle Hodges, Dolores Schafer, Fan Feeney and granddaughter, Casey Garvey.
