Rebecca Ann (Burrows) Wilson

December 12, 1958 — April 23, 2024

Ellicott City, Maryland

Rebecca Ann "Becky" Wilson (née Burrows), age 65, loving mother of three and devoted wife to husband Robert “Rick” Wilson, passed away peacefully at home on April 23rd, 2024.  She gracefully and courageously lived the last four years of her life with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  Becky was a positive and upbeat individual who tackled all of life’s challenges head-on and could find happiness in any situation.  Her joyful and kindhearted nature, along with her warmth and compassion, made her a bright light to all who knew her.

Becky was born on December 12th, 1958, in Charleston, WV to her mother, Dayle Marie Morton Burrows, and her father, Rev. Carl Emzie Burrows.  Alongside her dear sister Barbara, she grew up as the daughter of a Methodist minister, who served in many parishes throughout southern and eastern West Virginia.  She met her husband Rick in her mid 20s after being set up by a mutual friend.  After marrying in Charleston, WV on April 23rd, 1983, Rick and Becky went on to have three children together and lived in several towns in West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and Maryland during their 41 years as a married couple.

Becky excelled at everything she did—from school and career, to music and motherhood.

She graduated as Valedictorian from Mount Hope High School in Mount Hope, WV and went on to receive a Bachelor’s in Finance from West Virginia Wesleyan College.  Becky had an accomplished career in banking, culminating in her role as Senior VP of Wealth Management at Truist (formerly BB&T), where she dedicated over 20 years of service. She was proudly bestowed the ‘BB&T Wealth Most Admired Coach Award’, which was a testament to her innate leadership and mentorship abilities.

Her passion for music began early in life, as she learned how to play piano and organ, encouraged by her beloved aunt Norma Songer of Charleston, WV, who was a church pianist.  Becky also played trumpet in her high school marching band.  Becky was active in music at church throughout her life, including singing alto in choir, praise band, and serving as the main pianist at Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport, WV for 13 years.

As a mother, she was loving, patient, and generous with her time.  Her devotion to family life was evident in the tidiness of her home, deliciousness of her home-cooked meals (especially Sunday afternoon dinners), and the energy she poured into supporting her children’s education and personal interests.  She was known for her ability to offer words of wisdom in any situation, grounded in her Christian faith. One of her greatest joys in life was becoming a ‘nana’, as she welcomed her first grandchildren in 2017 and shared her love and wisdom with a new generation.

Becky is survived by her husband, Rick Wilson of Ellicott City, MD; daughter Mary Beth Thanhouser and husband Max Thanhouser of Timonium, MD; daughter Laura Finn and husband Eoin Finn of Annapolis, MD; son Ben Wilson of Arlington, VA; darling grandchildren Grayson, Lachlan, Vaila, Felicity, Camille, and Elowen; and sister Barbara Boyd and husband Wally Boyd of Mount Hope, WV.  She was preceded in death by her mother Dayle and father Carl Burrows.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 at Donaldson Funeral Home in Clarksville, MD.
