Myrtle C. Rolf

September 16, 1934 — May 21, 2023

Highland, Maryland

On Sunday, May 21st, Myrtle Rolf passed away peacefully in her sleep after a years long struggle with dementia.

Myrtle was born on September 16th, 1934 in Laurel, Maryland. She was the youngest of 9 siblings, all of whom have preceded her in death.

She met the love of her life, Billy A. Rolf and they married May 28, 1955. They were together for 62 years until his death in 2017. She resided in Beltsville, Md where she raised her two children, Cindy(Bartos) and David Rolf. Early in her marriage she worked as administrative assistant  at the Department of Justice. She chose to be a stay at home mom to raise her children through elementary school before returning to work at the Department of Agriculture.

Among many interests, Myrtle enjoyed wild birds and gardening, especially flowers. Her yard was decorated with birdhouses and flowers that bloom throughout the season. She loved painting, and became quite talented. She really enjoyed putting paint on canvas and creating, and would spend hours in front of the easel. Billy was a woodworker and together they created some beautiful pieces. He would design and build, she would paint and complete them. They truly enjoyed their creative teamwork.

Myrtle had five grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She loved every sleepover, and backyard baseball game. She baked them cookies and birthday cakes. She was proud of them and  enjoyed watching them grow into the adults they have become.

Her later years were filled with devotion and care for her husband Billy as he developed Parkinson's disease. Always there to comfort him, worry for him, encourage him, and care for him, Billy was her world and he loved her for it. Even after his death and as her dementia progressed, Myrtle still had him in her memory and would say his name when she would see his photograph. A love like theirs is eternal, and it was a happy day in heaven when they were reunited.

Myrtle is survived by her son David Rolf, her daughter Cindy Bartos, son in law Dennis Bartos, five grandchildren: Emily, David, Lainey, Matthew, and Jacob; and two great grandchildren: Avery and Oliver.
