Michael Leslie Zaruba, of Woodstock, Maryland, passed away on April 5th, 2026 from congestive heart failure at the age of 67.
Born on December 2, 1958, in La Mesa, California, Mike was the son of Frank and Marion Zaruba, both of whom preceded him in death. He spent his childhood in Merrick, New York, and North Bellmore, where he grew up and developed the character, drive, and sense of humor that would carry through his entire life.
In high school, Mike was a natural athlete, excelling in wrestling, football, and baseball-sports that showcased both his competitive drive and his love of teamwork. He went on to attend the New York Institute of Technology, where he majored in accounting, laying the foundation for a successful and evolving career.
He began his professional life as a comptroller before discovering his true calling in sales, which brought him to Maryland in the early 80's. He quickly excelled, becoming a top producer at Xerox and then Dynatax, which led him to his wife, Kim. But his greatest passion emerged in helping others succeed. As a gifted communicator and public speaker, he founded his own sales training business, spending decades traveling the world to educate sales professionals and leaders. His impact reached far beyond numbers-he inspired confidence, purpose, and growth in countless people across the globe.
Despite his international travels, Mike was, above all else, a devoted family man. His greatest joy was being home with his wife and children. He shared a special bond with each of them- supporting Taylor in his comedy, fishing with Zack, and watching Faith glide across the ice as a figure skater. He was present for the moments that mattered most, big and small.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Mike lived what he believed. He never hesitated to share his faith with others-whether seated next to a stranger on a plane or in the middle of a business meeting. With his affable nature and natural communication style, Mike had an easy way of connecting with people-usually with a smile or a well-timed joke.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed scuba diving with close friends and playing tennis-always embracing life with energy and enthusiasm. He and Kim created a home filled with hospitality, where friends and family were always welcomed and loved. Mike was known for his generous spirit and open heart.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Kim Hobart Zaruba; his children, Taylor (Lizzie) Zaruba, Zachary Zaruba, and Faith (Aaron) Zaruba; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah and Daylin. He is also survived by his brothers, Daniel Zaruba and Mark (Rhonda) Zaruba; and his foster sisters, Jill (John) O'Sullivan and Jackie Martin.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Mike lived big and loved big, guided by his faith in God, and we trust he is now at peace in His presence.
