Michael Joseph Beltz

September 30, 1939 — June 5, 2024

Highland, Maryland

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Beltz, age 84, of Highland, MD.

Michael is survived by his wife of 50 years Ruth, sons Jim, John and Jacob (Arin). He was a proud and loving Pop-Pop to Matthew, Charlie, Julie, Hailey, Abby, Jaydon, Cameron, Keegan, Kyle, Lyla, Lily, Ethan, Joseph and Adalyn. Michael was predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Louise and sister Anne.

Michael was born in Altoona, PA where he lived until he moved to Faribault, MN with his father.  He lived there for 12 years then moved back to Lancaster, PA to live with his mother until he entered Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA.  After graduating high school, he completed one year at Bloomsburg University and then entered the US Air Force.

Michael served in the Air Force for four years during which time he was stationed at several US bases. He was also stationed overseas in the Philippines and Turkey.

After Michael’s discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Lancaster, PA where he finished college at Millersville University.  After graduation Michael was hired by NSA.

While at NSA Michael did two 18-month tours in Vietnam and three 6-month tours in Iraq. During his second tour in Vietnam he met his wife Ruth, who was also an employee of NSA. Michael and Ruth got married in the US and were subsequently posted to England for 7 years. Upon their return to the States, they built their home in Highland, MD and have lived there ever since.

Michael finally retired from NSA after 57 years of service at the age of 80.

Michael faithfully served his country and provided for his family.  He was a generous and humble friend, uncle, cousin, brother, grandfather, dad, and husband. Many of us will not realize the size of the hole Michael has left in our heart for quite some time.
