Michael (Mike) Vincent Barbino, 74 of Ashton, MD passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Born in 1950 to Vincent and Mary Barbino in Mineola, NY, Mike had a deep faith in God and an incredible love for his family.
Mike is survived by his three children and spouses, Michael (Tina), Jennifer (Blaise), Mark(Nikki) and five grandchildren with a sixth due in May, his brother, Steve (Jane); his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Gene) Kruse, Rosemarie (Robert) Sommer; brothers-in-law Michael (Phyllis) Carullo and Salvatore (Marie) Carullo; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and parents, Vincent and Mary Barbino.
Mike had a very busy June of 1972, graduating from Fordham University with Bachelor of Science in Accounting, being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, and marrying his high school sweetheart, Patty. Soon after the wedding they moved with the Air Force to Nebraska, Turkey and Virginia before settling in the D.C. metro area to raise their three children Michael, Mark and Jennifer.
Mike was an incredible father, wonderful husband, and a die-hard New York Yankees fan. Mike loved sports and was an extremely competitive person. One time while playing Friday night softball, he broke his ankle in the second inning of the first game of a double-header and persevered, not missing any part of either game. He always had time to coach his kids’ teams, which provided another example of his competitive nature. He regularly held kitchen table team meetings with his dry erase clipboard of the basketball court. He always had a better pass we could have made or faster sprint to defense. When needed, he helped coach his grandkid’s teams. He enjoyed playing softball and racquetball with friends. He attended his grandkids’ events from baseball, basketball, soccer and lacrosse to cheerleading.
Mike received a Masters of Business Administration from Golden Gate University, completed the Air Command and Staff College and the Federal Executive Institute Leadership for a Democratic Society Program. He spent his entire 42-year career at the Air Force as an auditor. He served as the Air Force Audit Agency’s (AFAA) first Director of Staff and as the Assistant Auditor General for Resource Management. He retired as the Director of Operations for the AFAA in 2014.
He was devoted to his faith and regularly attended mass at St. Joseph’s in Pomfret before moving to Ashton.
