Mary Beth Garrahan

October 30, 1949 — November 1, 2024

Ellicott City, Maryland

Mary Beth Baskin Garrahan was born in Charlottesville, VA on October 30, 1946. She later moved to Ashland VA where her father was an Economics professor at Randolph-Macon College. She earned a BA in Music from Greensboro College in 1971, specializing in vocal performance. She eventually moved to Silver Spring, MD, where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Mary Beth met James “Jim” Garrahan at a Christian singles group, where she attended classes and participated in several events. They were married on July 12, 1980, and they were blessed with three children; Andrew (Katrin Nawrocki), Christine Garrahan (Eddie Cervantes), and Suzanne Garrahan. In addition, they have one grandchild, Theomore Wyld Stagfox. She is survived by her brother Lyle Baskin and was preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles Baslin.

Church was an important part of her life. She treasured the relationships she developed at Bethel Assembly of God, and thoroughly enjoyed the teachings of Pastor Cox. She was referred to as a ‘thorn in his side’, but he enjoyed her presence.

Mary Beth participated in choir, worship, sound room, youth, and prayer. She saw Bethel grow from a church building Woodward Street to its current building on Vollmerhausen Road.

One thing was sure about Mary Beth, prayer was also very important to her. She prayed once week for hour in the sanctuary while in a wheelchair and she’d do communion daily. She attended Thursday Night Prayer zoom sessions, always praying for others.

But her faith was not limited just to Bethel. She went to many Christian conferences – Lancaster, PA, Mechanicsburg, PA, Nashville, TN, Fort Worth, TX, New Orleans, LA, and Branson, MO.

Mary Beth sponsored two children with Compassion International and did regular giving to other missionary organizations.
