Marjorie Elizabeth Weik Miller of Columbia, Maryland passed away peacefully at the age of 100 years on Wednesday January 29, 2025 at the Lorien Assisted Living in Taneytown, Maryland. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 13, 1924 to Francis J. Weik and Gasena T. Schoepflin Weik. She grew up in Pimlico, Maryland, and later moved to Woodlawn, Maryland. Marjorie was a proud graduate of Seton High School in 1942, and then married her beloved husband Roland H. Miller II on May 24, 1943. They had 3 children, Roland H. Miller III, Susan E. and Teresa A. Miller.
In her early years she worked as a bookkeeper for contractors, and later Pimlico racetrack owners, Ben and Herman Cohen, and taught religious education at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Woodlawn. She and her husband and 3 children moved to the Ellicott City/Columbia, Maryland area in 1965. She then worked in the Rob-Ellen Gift Shop in Columbia, and later in the cash office of the Hochschild Kohn department store. The remainder of her work life was as a homemaker. Marjorie was a parishioner of Saint Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville, Maryland since 1965, often visiting with the elderly in the parish, and participating in many parish events.
Over the years, her interests included home decorating, doing jigsaw and word puzzles, winning at Scrabble, reading about American history, and traveling to places near and far. Sewing was one of her talents which resulted in a massive collection of fabrics. She even displayed a small plaque in her home with a quote she loved, stating “Whoever has the most fabric when she dies, wins”. So indeed, she must have won. Some of her most favorite pastimes were, above all, spending time with her family, taking long drives in the country, admiring beautiful mountain views, sitting by the ocean watching the tide come in, and dining at a good restaurant. She was a foodie before being foodie was even a thing and had an appetite that defied reality for a person of her diminutive size.
Marjorie is survived by her two daughters, Susan E. Rumford and Teresa A. Miller; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Miller; 4 grandchildren, Roland H. Miller IV, Carolyn Carpenter, Sarah Legal, and Laura Miller; and 7 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, her beloved son, her son-in-law, Micheal Rumford, her parents, and siblings Louise, Hilda, Francis, William, George, and Winnie. Marjorie was a devoted and much beloved wife and mother, seeing her years of raising her children as the most meaningful and fulfilling of her life. She was a woman of great integrity, convictions, and a generous spirit.
We find comfort in knowing that Marjorie's 100 year legacy lives on through the valuable life lessons she taught us, the love she shared, and the fond memories we will cherish forever.
