Letitia Ann Miller

July 26, 1941 — January 22, 2024

Pleasanton, California

Letitia Ann Miller (McGoogan) passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, in Pleasanton, CA, surrounded by family. Born in Lincoln, NC, on July 26, 1941, to Franklin and Anna Lee McGoogan, she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Letitia loved her family deeply and used her seemingly endless supply of patience and empathy to raise three children with her beloved husband of 51 years, Eugene Miller Jr. She is survived by her husband and their children: son Eugene Miller III, daughter-in-law Heidi Miller, and grandchildren Elena Miller and Noah Miller; son John Miller, daughter-in-law Analeah O’Neill, and grandchildren Vivian Miller, Patrick Miller, Henry Miller, and Beatrice Miller; and daughter Ann Miller, son-in-law Adam Lumia, and grandchildren Claire Lumia and Ernest Lumia. Letitia is also survived by her brother, Franklin McGoogan, and sister-in-law Jean McGoogan.

In addition to being a talented pianist, Letitia was a stand-out basketball player at Perquimans High School in Hertford, NC.  She continued her musical studies at Greensboro College, earning a Bachelor of Music, and Northwestern University, earning a Master of Music. After completing her studies, she moved to Annapolis, MD, where she taught music for seven years. She also loved composing music, writing works for woodwind quintet, solo piano, and string quartet, among others.

After marrying and moving to Clarksville, MD, Letitia spent countless hours supporting her children’s education and passions, especially sports and music. She was thrilled when she became a grandmother, and she has shared her loving and compassionate spirit with her eight cherished grandchildren.

A lifelong Methodist, Letitia was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Highland, MD, for almost 50 years. She found solace and strength in her faith, and she treasured the relationships she built through the church community. A funeral to remember Letitia’s life will be held at Mt. Zion on January 29, 2024, at 11am with a visitation at 10am before the service.
