June M. Scheer

On May 19, 2019, June Marion Scheer, loving daughter of the late Betty (Bloom) and Norman Scheer, passed away after a short illness. Born June 8, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, June grew up surrounded by an extended family. After graduating high school at 16 years of age, June attended Sinai Hospital School of Nursing and obtained her RN. She then worked at various hospitals specializing in pediatrics in Baltimore, New York, and Florida, before returning to Baltimore and University of Maryland Medical Center, where she worked in Pediatrics, Central Staffing, and the Shock Trauma Outpatient Center.

June is survived by her brother and his wife, George and Helena Scheer. She was the devoted aunt of nieces Helen (Keith) Levy and Nancy Scheer, nephews Joseph Scheer and Danny (Diana) Scheer, and numerous great nieces and nephews. In addition, she was a beloved honorary “aunt” of Matthew Sauers and his wife Jennifer and their children Emma, Alexander, and Cody. June was cherished and cared for by long-term friends Kay and Bob Sauers. In addition to her parents, June was predeceased by her brother Fred and half sister Frances Duerr.

June was part of a group of special friends, including Kathy McCullough, Helen Merritt and Judy Rhode, who formed a Dinner Group over twenty-five years ago and met for dinner once a month over all these years. Throughout the years she became the dear friend of many others who remember her quick wit and infectious laugh. June had several special interests. She read extensively and wanted to constantly learn new things. An avid Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens fan, June watched every broadcast game. She followed athletes in tennis and golf also and could quote statistics about them. While living in Florida she attended clown school, designing her own clown face, and began her extensive clown collection. June also enjoyed attending craft fairs with another special friend, Barbara Sauers.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at St. Louis Church Cemetery, 5950 Ten Oaks Road, Clarksville, MD. Family and friends will gather afterwards for Repast and a celebration of June’s life.

In lieu of flowers, June had asked for contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. As a long time, contributor herself, June felt this was another way to “care” for children.
