Juan "John" Noberto Nieves, Jr.

John Nieves of Ellicott City, MD, peacefully passed away with his family by his side, at his home on June 18th, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

John was born February 8, 1940 in New York City. He was raised in New York City, growing up near Central Park, close to the location of the filming of the West Side Story.  He enjoyed playing stickball in the NY city streets and playing softball in Central Park with his childhood friends.

John went into the US ARMY right out of high school and served overseas in Germany. Upon leaving the US ARMY, he started working at McGraw Hill Publishing Company, in New York, where he met his future bride, of 54 years, Eileen Moloney. In 1972, they moved to Maryland and completed their family. John spent his professional career in the printing industry retiring as the Vice President of Publications at Kelly Press. He was proud to work with everyone, and especially his clients, making lifelong relationships along the way.  John was an usher and member of the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City.  He enjoyed entertaining, reading, travelling and chauffeuring his Princess around everywhere.  He was very patriotic and proud to be an American, serving his country, loving the American flag. He was also an avid New York Mets and New York Giants fan.   He was always bigger than life, full of laughs, a little New York swagger- well, ok a lot of swagger, and plenty of Puerto Rican pride. His Spanish speaking skills could be a little rusty but he pulled them out every now and then.  He was a man full of love and respect for his immediate and extended family.  Any and all were always welcomed to his home…especially down to the basement where the shots were flowing and the laughs and stories continued.

Many of you were a big part of his life and he would want to generously thank you for being part of it and everything you did for him and his family.

John is survived by his beautiful wife Eileen (Moloney) Nieves, three children Cindy (nee Nieves) Rogers and husband Ken Rogers, Kimberly Daniels and Michael Nieves and wife Bionda ( nee Nanlohy) Nieves; grandchildren Crystal (Rogers) Burke and husband Josh Burke, Steven Rogers and fiancee Lexy Martinez, Cait (nee Daniels) Brenner and husband Kevin Brenner, Carley Daniels and Cody Cole, Kyle Daniels; great-Grandchildren Kallen Burke, Alden Burke, Natalie Brenner and Jason Brenner. He is also survived by his brother Robert Nieves and wife Marilyn (Scahill) Nieves. He was preceded in death by his father Juan Norberto Nieves and mother Emilia Nieves.

Relatives and friends may visit Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A.,12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on Monday, June 21 from 4:30 to 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Dr, Ellicott City, MD 21042 on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to: University of Maryland Medical Center, Marlene and Stuart Greenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, directed to their Prostate Cancer Research Fund or Gilchrist Hospice .
