John Bruce Gunner

​John Bruce Gunner, aged 76, of Clarksville, passed away at his home on February 20, 2025. Born on November 15, 1948, in Teaneck, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Gunner.​

John graduated from the University of Scranton in 1970 with a degree in business, and later earned a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University. He honorably served in the Navy National Guard until 1970 and the Army National Guard until 1976. Beginning his career at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), John later joined the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), where he was honored with the District Director's Award in 1997. In 1992, he also became a Certified Financial Planner.​

John had a passion for history, traveling, reading, dogs, and football—always cheering for the Giants.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Gunner; daughters Jennifer (Charlie) Meyer of Ellicott City, Alison Gunner of Laurel, Christina (Brian) Gunner of Westminster, and Elizabeth (Niels) Gunner-Schermer of Denmark; sister Jean of Eugene, OR; and nine grandchildren: Jania, David, Kylie, Surie, Augusta, Montgomery, John, Francis, and Penelope.​

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son and three sisters.​

A memorial mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville, MD on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 10:00AM .

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
