Jeanne Birks Sealing, 81, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and longtime resident of Fulton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Born in Washington, DC, in 1943 to LaVerne and Mary Jane Birks, Jeanne grew up in Takoma Park and attended High Point High School. She met her future husband, Dave, at the University of Maryland, and they married at the College Park Chapel in 1965. Jeanne began her career teaching at Mount Hebron High School before dedicating herself to raising their three children. Later, she returned to her passion for teaching at Ashton Methodist nursery school.
Jeanne found her love of fitness as a YMCA aerobics instructor, continuing to teach classes at senior centers until just a few years ago. She cherished time with her family, especially her four grandchildren. Jeanne and Dave shared a love of travel, exploring the world together through their passion for Volksmarching 10K walks. Her adventures spanned from Munich to St. Petersburg, Machu Picchu, and New Zealand often with her travel companion, Suzanne. Among her favorite travels were visits to Hawaii, where she and Dave delighted in swimming with turtles and sharing the islands’ beauty with their entire family.
Jeanne’s life was filled with simple joys: planting flowers, dancing and laughing, sailing the Chesapeake Bay, visiting lighthouses, walking the beach, and creating moments that brought her family together. On weekends, she could often be found at College Park, dressed in red and cheering on her Terps with enthusiasm, fist-pumping to “M-A-R-Y-L-A-N-D will win!”
Her warm smile, infectious giggle, and loving spirit will be profoundly missed by her husband, Dave; her children, Chip, Scott, and Suzanne; and her extended family, Jennifer, Sharon, Andrew, CJ, Julia, and Liam.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeanne’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association .
