Jeanne Theresa Mcpartland

Jeanne McPartland, age 92, passed away in Columbia, Maryland on August 12th, 2024.

She was born Jeanne Theresa Moessner on February 15, 1932, in Union City, New Jersey, the daughter of Gustav Kurt Moessner and Marie T. Moessner (nee Wieseman). She married John Harold McPartland on July 14th, 1956. They lived in Washington Township, New Jersey, and later in Mt. Arlington, New Jersey.

Jeanne was mainly a homemaker, always putting her family first, always supportive of whatever endeavors her sons took part in. But she was trained as a professional secretary, typing at an amazing speed, and an expert at the lost art of shorthand dictation. She worked as a temporary secretary when it didn’t get in the way of ski season or beach season. Often working at nearby IBM offices, she was trusted to use the very latest word processing equipment made by that company. She later went back to school, earning her Associates Degree from the County College of Morris in 1979.

After retirement, they moved to Hackettstown, New Jersey, and later to Bevidere, New Jersey. After Jeanne’s stroke, they moved to an assisted living facility in Columbia, Maryland.

Jeanne played sports all of her life, most notably tennis, swimming, skiing, and later, golf. She was an active member of the North Jersey Whiz Skiers. Her family has happy memories of many ski trips to the club’s lodge in Vermont near Mad River Glen ski area. She regularly attended mass at her local Roman Catholic church, even going to services while on vacation.

Jeanne McPartland is survived by her twin sister, June Hockenbeck of Waldwick, New Jersey, with whom she had the kind of deep connection that only twins can have. She is survived by her two sons, John M. McPartland and wife Patty Pruitt of Middlebury, Vermont; and Kevin J. McPartland and wife Karlyn of Jessup, Maryland. Also two cherished granddaughters, Kari J. McPartland and husband Tyler Meneely of Frederick, Maryland; and Kathleen T. McPartland of Dubai, UAE. Kari and Tyler took Jeanne's brand-new great-grandson, Franklin Aldo McPartland, to meet her shortly before her passing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John – married for 67 years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, October 19th at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, Maryland. Relatives and friends are welcome to arrive half an hour before the start of the service (10:00am) for an informal gathering.
