James E. Slevin Jr.

February 16, 1951 — August 1, 2025

Columbia, Maryland

James Edward Slevin Jr. passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025. He was born in Jackson Heights, Queens on February 16, 1951 as the first child of James Slevin Sr., a World War II veteran and New York City police officer, and Eileen Corkery Slevin, a school secretary. Jim was raised in New Hyde Park, Long Island where he attended Notre Dame Catholic School and served as an altar boy at Notre Dame Parish. He attended Archbishop Molloy High School, where he played baseball for legendary coach Jack Curran. Jim graduated from Villanova University where he studied business. After college Jim was a firefighter at F.D.N.Y. Ladder 6 in New York City before moving to Baltimore, Maryland where he co-founded a successful insurance business. After retiring early, he pivoted to a new role “managing” his cousins’ Irish folk rock band, The Legendary Hooligans. In his more recent years, Jim spent his days golfing and socializing with his dear friends in Vero Beach, FL.

Jim is survived by his brother Bob (Becky), his sister Maryanne (Casey, predeceased) and her children Kevin and Eileen Crawford, and his former wife of 23 years, Sharon. He was affectionately known as “Jimbo” to their four children and seven grandchildren: Lauren Capelle (Andy), Pete, John, and Cara of Woodbine, MD; Chris Slevin (Lisa), Georgie, and Sam of Seattle, WA; Owen Slevin (Erica) and Louis of Los Angeles, CA; and Patrick Slevin (Caitlyn) and Marie of New Haven, CT.

Jim cherished his family, his many friendships, his Irish heritage and his beloved Beatles. He will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, memorable storytelling, and generosity. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider a charitable donation to the University of Maryland Medical System.
