NOVAK, JAMES LAWRENCE (Age 83). On Monday, April 13, 2026, he passed on to God’s loving care. He is survived by his four children Elizabeth Thompson (Frederick), Jennifer Huston (Paul), Jay Novak, and Laura Arnett (Mark); eight grandchildren Matthew Thompson, Scott Thompson, Taylor Huston, Zack Huston, Alexis Arnett, Mia Novak, Summer Novak and Piper Novak; sisters Mary Castricone and Cathy Novak, and brother Richard Novak; In-Laws, Kathleen Durso, Gerry Malloy, Christopher Malloy. He was raised in Berwyn Heights, Maryland by his parents Lawrence and Lillian Novak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Eberly.
He attended the University of Maryland in College Park, and was a Navy Corpman for four years. He worked for the United States Park Police for over 20 years, rising to the rank of Captain. He was Commander of the West District Horse Mounted Unit. After leaving law enforcement, he worked at the White House as Security Liaison.
He was married to the love of his life, Mary Therese (Malloy) Novak on October 9, 1965 and they raised their family in Gambrills, Maryland. They were married almost 50 years. She proceeded him in death.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 21st, 2026 at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, located at 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, Maryland from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, Maryland on Wednesday April 22nd, 2026 at 10am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the charity of your choosing.
