Helen Poulos Walter

Helen Poulos Walter, born November 13, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, to John and Anastasia Ntassos Poulos (Tsioplakis) of Hightstown, New Jersey passed away on Sunday, May 9, Mother’s Day, at the age of 93.

Helen was raised in Hightstown, New Jersey and graduated from Hightstown High School in 1943.  She attended Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey, worked as a secretary at the Peddie School in Hightstown for two years, then as a dental assistant for seven years.  Helen retired as a school secretary at Hightstown High School after 18 years.

She married Norman Jack Walter on September 6, 1953 at the Greek Orthodox Church in Trenton, N.J.  They were married for 60 years.  They moved to Wilmington, N.C. in 1983.  Helen was a voracious reader, an avid bridge planner, a dog lover, and was active in the First Baptist Church of Hightstown and the St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wilmington, N.C.  Norman and Helen traveled the world and spent 6 months in Athens, Greece.  They were extras in movie productions in Wilmington, NC and participated in the Senior Olympic games for age 55 and over winning dozens of medals in biking, running, and race walking.

After Norman passed away in 2013, Helen moved to Clarksville to be with her daughter.  Helen is survived by her daughter, Charisse Walter Sary, of Clarksville, MD.  Helen is preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Theodora Voharas and Alexandria Ditcheos.
