On Sept 17, 2019, Hai Thanh Nguyen, of Columbia, Maryland passed away at 79 years old  He was born September 20, 1939 to Kinh Duc Nguyen and Canh Thi Le in Hanoi, Vietnam.  Hai received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964. He returned to Vietnam to teach veterinary medicine and became Dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Science and eventually headed the National Agricultural Institute  He came back to the United States in 1975 and completed his residencies in Veterinary Pathology and Laboratory Animal Medicine at the University of Florida.  He enjoyed a long successful research career and retired as an Associate Professor at Cornell University Medical College.  He enjoyed tennis, fishing and, more than anything, being with his beloved family.  He is survived by his wife Bich Lien Nguyen; his daughters Teri Nguyen Kreisl and An Nguyen Massaro; sons-in-law W. Charles Kreisl and Paul Massaro; grandchildren Tyler, Matthew, Logan, Avery and Chase; brother Son, sisters Anh, Khue, and Chinh. He was preceded in death by sister Binh.

A Memorial service will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A.12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD on Saturday September 21, 2019, at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment Private.

Nguyen, who had been transfused platelets 245 times and received a total of 114 units of blood over the course of his illness.
