Geraldine Alice Kavanagh, a Bethesda, Maryland resident for more than 60 years, died on April 28, 2026, at her home in Glenwood, Maryland of metastatic cancer. She was 76.
A graduate of the Connelly School of the Holy Child in Potomac, MD, she served as a teacher and English department chairperson and served for two terms on the school’s Board of Trustees. She was a graduate of Manhattanville College and received Master of Education and Juris Doctor degrees from The American University, Washington, DC.
Ms. Kavanagh retired from Montgomery County Public Schools after 37.5 years of service as a high school teacher and program administrator. She sponsored the Robert E. Peary Poms and Student Government Association there. She volunteered with Court Watch of Montgomery County and was an active member of the Layette and Opportunity Shop programs of the Washington Chapter of the Christ Child Society’s Agnes M. Kavanagh Guild, named for her mother. She was a passionate crocheter creating blankets which were donated to newborn infants as part of the Layette program within the Christ Child Society.
Ms. Kavanagh was a daughter, cousin, niece, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, best friend, neighbor, teacher, mentor, volunteer, and above all a true example of a kind and caring soul. She was a devout Catholic with never-ending faith in God.
She is survived by her son, Robert James Kavanagh Hopkins, daughter-in-law Christine Fahey Hopkins, granddaughter Charlotte Belle Hopkins, and granddog Dewey Blue Hopkins, all of Glenelg, MD.
