George Ronald "Ron" Oakes

George Ronald (Ron) Oakes went to see the Lord on October 9, 2023, in Silver Spring, MD after suffering a heart attack. His sister Barbara was with him and told him to rest in peace as he meets with our brothers and parents. He was born in 1948 and spent his first years in Washington, DC and later in Beltsville, Maryland where he resided after his time in the Air Force for the rest of his life.

Ron was predeceased by his parents George and Carolyn Oakes, his brothers Tom and Richard (Dick) and his brother-in-law Ken Hildreth. He is survived by his sister Barbara Hildreth, his special sisters-in-law Elaine and Bonnie as well as many nieces and nephews. Ron also had a very special friend, Linda Snyder who checked on him daily as they chatted about “whatever”.

Ron attended High Point High School in Beltsville and after graduation served in the Air Force where he spent a year in Vietnam and was also stationed at Andrews AFB in MD and at Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY. While in Vietnam he learned to play chess which became one of his favorite past times. His good friends Jesse and Terry often stopped by his house to play. Ron was once the MD state champion and went on to play in a national championship in Florida. He also enjoyed watching the sports teams of Washington and attended Senators baseball games with his brothers as a child.

A Funeral Service will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
