Ethel Diaz Crawford passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, surrounded by care at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center in Columbia, Maryland.
Ethel was born on August 4, 1947, in Manila, Philippines, the first daughter and second child in the family of Ramon and Adela Diaz. She completed her high school education at St. Mary’s College in Quezon City and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. She became a Certified Public Accountant and began her professional career with the Philippine government before relocating to New York City.
While living in New York, Ethel served as Controller for the Maharlika Restaurant on Fifth Avenue. It was there that she met her husband, John Crawford, an Executive Instrumentation Engineer. After their marriage in the Philippines, John and Ethel resided in Dallas, Texas, before settling in the Northeast, making their home on 81st Street in New York City and in Danbury, Connecticut. In 1992, the family moved to Maryland, where Ethel resided until her passing.
In Maryland, Ethel worked as Controller for SSSI (Scientific Systems and Software International), an information technology company, while raising their two children, Kenneth and Karen. Ethel was a loving and caring mother whose children were always her highest priority. She was deeply devoted to her family and maintained a strong connection to her Filipino heritage.
Ethel was known for her warm and joyful spirit, her generosity, her love of singing and dancing, and her consistent thoughtfulness toward the lives of those around her. Her kindness and vibrant personality will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth and Karen; her siblings Melvyn, Ramon Jr., Ted, Jean, Dan, Cheryl, and Ritz; along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren; and the extended Diaz and Perez families.
