Eric "Rick" Scott Oler

Eric Scott Oler, known by friends and family as “Rick,” passed away at the age of 60 on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with his immediate family at his side.  Rick was the oldest child and loving son of Scott and Gail Oler of Clarksville, Maryland.

Rick was a 1982 graduate of Atholton High School in Columbia, MD.  It was here he met and later married the love of his life, Carolyn Tucker.  Rick was a gifted athlete who excelled in football and lacrosse and then went on to play lacrosse at Essex Community College in Baltimore. For many years, he played in a men’s softball league for the American Legion Post 60 in Laurel.

He learned his masonry craftsmanship working alongside his dad in the family business, Scott Oler Masonry, Inc. for many years.  For the past ten years, he was a Field Mason Superintendent for E&A Contractors, Inc. in Perry Hall, MD.

First and foremost, Rick was a family man.  As his kids were growing up, Rick found joy in coaching their various sports teams. His greatest source of joy was spending time with his wife, children and close friends.  Most weekends and many vacations were spent playing cornhole and other backyard games, then ending with stories and antics around a fire pit.  Other hobbies included golfing, boating and crabbing. His Sundays were spent rooting for his favorite NFL team, the Miami Dolphins.  These cherished memories will remain with us forever.

Rick is survived by his devoted and beautiful wife of 35 years, Carolyn and five children: Eric Oler, Jr., and wife Mathia of Hanover, PA, Bryan Oler and wife Kayla of Maysville, NC, Wyatt Oler of Columbia, MD, Jenna Oler and fiancé Kenny McGee of Baltimore and Shannon Oler of Columbia, MD. Rick took delight in his first grandson Walker and first granddaughter Harper, both born in 2023.  His grandson-to-be (Sterling Oler) will make his debut early October.

He also leaves behind his beloved sister Debbie McKee and brother-in-law Tom of Mt. Airy, MD. Rick was also blessed with a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will all miss his gruff but loveable, gentle soul.

The Oler Family looks forward to honoring Rick with a Celebration of Life on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 6:00pm - 10:00pm, to take place at The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 69, 2832 Nine Mile Circle Catonsville, Maryland 21228.
